The 2018 Pirelli Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK) concluded with Malaysia’s top rider Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman adding another title to his cap by winning the Superbike Championship in grand style with a dominating performance in Round 5 at Sepang International Circuit.
Carrying a massive 42-points advantage into the final leg, the 33-year old Azlan Shah, whom had been crowned as champion of the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC), Malaysian Cub Prix Championship and the Malaysian Super Series for the Superbike and Supersport classes in his illustrious career, was in no mood of just winning the overall crown.
Despite experiencing problems with his Kawasaki’s fuel pump at the tail end of the opening race, Azlan, who competed under the banner of Chia PJ Motor Kawasaki Racing, convincingly won the 12-lap contest; beating India’s Rajini Krishnan by more than 11 seconds to the chequered flag. In a wet Race 2, Azlan remained dominant; winning the 12-lap contest in 29 minutes 21.778 seconds; finishing 20.246 seconds ahead of second placed Mohd Ramdan Rosli of TOC HKM Racing Team. Serrapica took third place.
“Naturally, I would like to thank Chia Motor my sponsors and my team crew for a sensational season. I would also like to thank the SIC’s marshals for their good work in ensuring that the riders can enjoy our competition and the racing experience,” Azlan, who finished the season with a massive haul of 227 points.
