Last weekend we took part in a different kind of off-race organised by Cervello Tres, the official distributor of Velocifero electric scooters. The CTX Merdeka Race was held at the Shah Alam Botanical Garden.
Since it was our 1st time taking part, I didn’t know what to expect and how the track looked like, as early showers dampen the track. Briefing was done around 8.30am with 1st round started around 9am. all the contestants will get a trial 1st lap then immediately 3 lap race then a time attack lap (total of 5 laps) the 1st and 2nd position of the group will qualify to the semi-final and the winner of the semi-final will qualify for the final race.
In the opening race I managed to qualify to the semi as I took second position and in time attack lap, I did 45.85 sec, pretty decent for a first-timer on this track with the rental Velocifero. In the semi-final, while i took a brief lead in the first lap but unlucky to have overshot a little and my scooter battery was already low so i couldn’t catch up. The bike we all rode was with asid battery which the voltage gets lower the scooter will eventually drop power, the trick is to maintain a consistent line and don’t shut the throttle too much. The best battery which will provide a consistent power to the very end is the lithium-ion battery but lithium-ion is costly.
Best Time Attack timing will qualify the participants to the finals that would be held in December. The grand prize will be a MAD Truck worth RM10,000.
