An incredibly fun to ride, combined with maximum dynamism, smooth power delivery and a hot styling that is just the biggest turn-on: the KTM 390 DUKE marks another major step forward, leaving the competition in the dust. Light as a feather especially the front, supremely powerful and practical, equipped with radical looks as well as cutting-edge technology: the KTM 390 DUKE makes an exciting as well as an affordable choice for all who value a riding experience defined by agility and raw performance.
The latest KTM 390 DUKE of model year 2017 impresses with the hottest KISKA design to date, with a predatory stance and edgy lines rising all the way from the aggressively shaped new LED headlight derived from the bigger brother the Super Duke 1290R. It comes with a commanding new riding position and most agile chassis geometry yet. It is greener than ever with an
outstanding fuel mileage and minimal emissions. And it is equipped with the most comprehensive levels of advanced technology, from the BOSCH ABS as standard to the exciting LED technology and from the TFT display, to the new and sophisticated ride-by-wire system to best tame its lively, powerful engine. Optionally available is the KTM MY RIDE connectivity solution.
In the true KTM DUKE spirit, all of these features flow organically together in style to achieve one single, unified goal: outrageous riding fun. For wherever you ride and whatever the conditions – the central idea behind every KTM DUKE model is the same it has always been: a raw, simple and authentic riding experience. Pure and unadulterated performance. Marvellously radical and at times, thrillingly irrational.
This being said though, in MY 2017, one other and very rational thing is also true: it will be hard to find more bike for that money. That goes for the extreme dynamism, where the new KTM 390 DUKE once again defies the envelope with the best power-to-weight ratio of its class, vanquishing multi-cylinder competitors that have more displacement. And it goes all the more for the fascinating technology and state-of-the-art equipment. In a word:
the KTM 390 DUKE of 2017 once more pulls way ahead of the pack. Regarding the ergonomics, one of the most notable changes is the fuel tank, enlarged from 11 to 13.4 litres and now providing the rider with even fuller knee contact while still allowing for great mobility. In addition, the clutch and brake levers are now adjustable. Suspension, wheels, handlebar, wherever you look, this bike boasts absolutely top-notch, premium components, and the leading Bosch ABS is of course no exception. For even more awesome stopping power, the radial front caliper now clamps down on a brake disc enlarged to a full 320 millimetres.
The first for a motorbike in its class ever, the new KTM 390 DUKE is equipped with a multifunctional TFT display. Much more than a mere gadget, its versatile configuration options and advanced rider interface form a cornerstone of the KTM 390 DUKE experience.
Features like the engine speed read-out turning blue during warm-up or its colour change to red when the engine speed approaches the limit are an expression of the company’s meticulous devotion to detail. Background and letter colour adjust automatically to the ambient light. In addition, the optional KTM MY RIDE with Bluetooth™ connectivity provides sophisticated smartphone integration for the hands-free and audio player functionality demanded in a modern urban environment. With it, incoming calls and the music app are seamlessly integrated into the TFT display and the corresponding functions conveniently operated via a switch on the handlebar. The future is now, and it is READY TO RACE!
With the KTM 390 DUKE, KTM aims to create nothing less than the single best bike in the class below 600 cc. It is aimed at adult riders looking for top performance while making a radical design
statement be it on weekend tours or urban to mid-range commutes.
The spec sheet for any such bike is topped by the demand for a fantastic, high-performance engine and the compact, lightweight 373.2 cc single has got it all: from the 4-valve cylinder head with DLC-coated finger followers to the wet-sump lubrication, the three-way catalytic converter and the compact crankcase with vertically stacked gearbox shafts – the Austrians pulled out all the stops with this design. In the latest model generation, a new ride-by-wire control system makes for even greater smoothness and refinement while taking into account a flood of sensor data for an outstanding response in any situation. Furthering the smoothness theme is the slipper clutch that eliminates any rear wheel chatter basically
before it occurs. Further good news: as of 2017, the KTM 390 DUKE runs cleaner than ever.
The defining features of the scorching styling with the distinctive KISKA looks include a revised frame with new bolt-on subframe, highlighted by its finish in a contrasting colour. That slammed, aggressive stance with the rising rear is visually underscored in a highly effective manner by the edgy new bodywork with completely revised, separate rider and pillion seats. Form and functional high-tech amalgamate in the new front with its stunning, high-tech LED headlight in front-end of the KTM 390 DUKE’s futuristic full-colour TFT display.
Also new, the 43 mm upside-down front fork has been developed by KTM in close co-operation with WP Suspensions. Their advanced open-cartridge architecture is distinguished by an outstanding response, combined with awesome stability and exceptional precision. At the same time, reduced complexity contributes to easier maintenance while saving even more weight, for an absolutely superior power-to-weight ratio.
